Career
Details
Kate
joined the Metropolitan Police Forensic Science Laboratory as
a Document Examiner in 1992. She transferred to the Forensic Science
Service Wetherby Laboratory in 1998. She joined Document Evidence
Ltd in 1999 and has examined over a thousand cases involving documents
and handwriting in both Criminal and Civil cases and has given
evidence at the Central Criminal Court, Crown Courts, Magistrates
Courts, International War Crimes Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia,
Industrial Tribunals and Police Disciplinary Hearings.
She
is the co-author of the following paper:
Secondary impressions of writing and ESDA-detectable paper-paper
friction. Barr, K.J., Pearse, M.L. and Welch, J.R. (1996) Science
& Justice 36(2): 97-100.
Kate
is also a regular contributor to the biennial Questioned Documents
Group Meetings of the Forensic Science Society, a reviewer of
scientific papers submitted to Science & Justice and is involved
in lecturing and training on Forensic Document Examination; for
example to Police Forces, Financial Institutions, Local Authorities,
NHS Counter Fraud Services, the Passport Agency, University staff
and UK Forensic Scientists.
She
is the author of articles on Document Examination for Science
& Justice and Fraud Intelligence (Informa Professional Publishing),
co-author of other scientific papers and is involved in research
collaboration with the University of Kent.
