Recruited
to the Home Office Forensic Science Service in 1975 as a Document
Examiner, Kim resigned in 1992 from the post of Senior Scientific
Officer to establish Document Evidence Limited together with six
former colleagues.
During
his career he has examined numerous cases involving tens of thousands
of documents. He is experienced in all aspects of Document Examination,
especially the comparisons of handwritings, signatures, typescripts,
photocopies, counterfeit documents, papers, inks and alterations.
He
has examined cases from a wide variety of investigators mainly
the police forces of England and Wales, Customs and Excise, the
Inland Revenue, the Benefits Agency, and for solicitors in both
criminal defence and civil proceedings.
He
has examined numerous fraud cases, and documents in murder and
corruption enquiries, and has a particular knowledge of 'West
African' fraud.
He
is an experienced witness having given evidence in both criminal
and civil courts on over 300 occasions. He has also been heavily
involved in the training of other Document Examiners both from
the UK and overseas. In addition he has for many years lectured
on CID and Fraud courses at Police Training Schools, and has been
involved in the production of quality assurance trials.
